with the answers we usually give in each case.
If you have a question not answered in this section please get
in touch and we will do our best to answer it. We may even
add it to the list.
Q1. How will this product help me teach science and ICT in the classroom?
Q2. Can I rent the system out?
Q3. How simple is the system to set up?
Q4. How do I provide power to the leg harness and robot?
Q5. I live outside the United Kingdom; how
can I guarantee delivery of my order?
Q6. I’ve seen the
videos on the site, what else can the robot do?
Q7. I’ve
seen the videos of the leg harness in action what else does it do?
Q8. How
are the robot and leg harness attached to the PC?
Q9. I work in a
college and would like to borrow one of the kits to demonstrate the
robot
functionality at a seminar next month/year?
Q10. Is it possible
to replace the cable with a wireless link?
Q11. Could the new
circuit be used in experimental projects and how many channels will
there be?
Q1. How will this product help me teach science
and ICT in the classroom?
A1. The product instantly captures
the attention of students.
RoboLAB marries two popular ICT/Science subjects,
namely robotics and data acquisition.
The product has a high “can
I have a go?” factor.
The product relies on technology teachers are expected to convey
to students.
The product provides scope for experimentation and bridges the
gap between robot research and the classroom. top
Q2. Can I rent the system out?
A2. We do not rent our products
at the moment. top
Q3. How simple
is the system to set up?
A3. It takes roughly ½ an
hour to set up and install the software and the connect the hardware.
New users are guided through the process step-by-step with our
simple to use manual.
If the customer purchases after a demonstration - our representative
will install the product free of charge.
Our Technical help line is only an email or phone
call away. top
Q4. How do I provide power to the leg harness and
robot?
A4. UK customers will find the kit
contains 2 x power supplies - 1 for the leg harness and
the other for the robot.
All others customers may source their own power supplies however
please contact Robotic Systems Ltd. either by
email or phone for further help. top
Q5. I live outside the United Kingdom; how
can I guarantee delivery of my order?
A5. Being a non-UK resident is not
a problem as our products are posted using insured recorded delivery.
For a list of prices to various
parts of the world please contact us for
details or for a quick quote. top
Q6. I’ve seen the videos on the site,
what else can the robot do?
A6. Mimic Man directly copies live
movement from the leg harness or replays data from a
file. File data can be used to make the robot walk
forward and backwards. The robot can be single-stepped
or made to speed up or slow down. Single-steps can be captured
and stored as models to produce a repeatable
walking pattern.
A low pass filter and polynomial function can be used to smooth model
data.
Contact Robotic Systems Ltd. by phone or email for
further details. top
Q7. I’ve seen the videos of the leg
harness in action what else does it do?
A7. The leg
harness is designed to capture
movements from the test subject and transfer the information
to the PC via
RS232 - its as simple as
that.
The data is checked when it reaches the PC and if corrupted will
be retransmitted.
The harness can be adjusted relative to the waist and height of the
test subject.
Each harness component can be replaced using off the shelf parts
from Robotic Systems Ltd. Please contact
us for further details. top
Q8. How are the robot and leg harness attached to the
PC?
A8. A cable is attached between
the leg harness and
PC and is used to pass data and supply power. A cable is attached
between the mimic man robot and PC and
is used to pass data and supply power. top
Q9. I work in a college and would like to borrow one
of the kits to demonstrate the robot functionality at a seminar
next month/year?
A9. In exceptional circumstances
we might lend a kit to a potential new customer (subject to vetting)
- however only one kit is available for this purpose and damaged
returned
kits
will
be
subject
to
a repair/replacement charge. top
Q10. Is it possible to replace the cable with a wireless
link?
A10. Yes, Robotic Systems Ltd. is
currently working on a new circuit capable of transmitting or receiving
data from the PC. The new circuit will allow the leg
harness to
move anywhere within a range of approximately 20 metres indoors and
even farther
outside. top
Q11. Could the new circuit be used in experimental
projects and how many channels will there be?
A11. Yes, the circuit is designed to be built
into whatever project a customer wishes.
The circuit will have 14 channels.
A switch setting will allow either servo control or analogue data
capture.
The device will also be capable of transceiving data from serial
devices connected to the free serial socket. top
